BOTOX® Cosmetic

Do you find yourself hiding behind smile lines and wrinkles? For those who would like to smooth their skin, but don’t want to undergo face lift, blepharoplasty, or forehead lift, BOTOX® Cosmetic may be an excellent alternative . The Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery can safely and easily restore your youthful appearance by temporarily eliminating creases, fine lines, and crow’s feet.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified chemical that relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles, giving the skin a smooth, rejuvenated appearance. Some of the common areas treated by BOTOX® Cosmetic include crow's feet, frown and laugh lines, and forehead wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments at our Columbus office take about 15 minutes and little or no anesthesia is needed. Each BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment lasts up to three months and can be repeated as necessary (with continued injections the effects might last longer). For an even more youthful and glowing appearance, you may want to combine a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment with a chemical peel.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected with a fine needle into the affected muscles and generally takes three to seven days to take full effect. Although BOTOX® will dramatically improve your appearance by reducing and eliminating wrinkles, it will not drastically change your appearance or make it obvious that you had work done.

In addition to eliminating wrinkles, studies have shown that BOTOX® Cosmetic is effective in relieving migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes. Chemical Peels

Chemical peels improve the skin’s appearance skin by peeling away the damaged top layers, revealing smoother, more youthful skin. In addition, chemical peels can be used to eliminate or improve wrinkles, mild scarring, certain types of acne, sunspots, age spots, freckles, and splotching. Chemical peels, done in our Columbus office, are one of the best ways to improve the skin on your neck, chest, hands, legs, or arms.

During chemical peels, a chemical solution is spread over small areas of the skin that causes it to blister and peel off, regenerating new skin that is smoother and less wrinkled. Most patients experience a warm sensation that lasts five to 10 minutes, followed by a stinging sensation. After undergoing a chemical peel in our Columbus office, many patients experience a reaction similar to sunburn, as well as peeling, redness, and scaling, but these symptoms usually subside within three to seven days.

Lines Around the Mouth

Dr. Bivik Shah treats patients from Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus, Ohio for lines around the mouth.  You may have just started noticing lines or wrinkles around your mouth, or you have may have been concerned about them for a long time.  Most people just are not sure what can be done about them.  At the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery, in Columbus, Ohio, we use the latest and most advanced techniques to offer you the best option for your needs.  Today, there are simple solutions as well as more complicated options.  It just depends on how much correction you want!  We offer simple treatments with fillers (like Restylane® or Juve`derm®) or lasers, and more involved options like chemical peels (this should be a link to the actual chemical peels page). Why does a wrinkle form?

Dr. Bivik Shah believes that a wrinkle forms for two basic reasons.  First, the underlying muscle "wrinkles" the skin when it contracts or works.  This would be the same as grabbing a sheet on a freshly made bed with your fist - there would be many wrinkles.  The second reason is the effect of gravity and aging. There is loose skin, and when something is loose, it wrinkles! The lines around the mouth are mainly caused by the muscle underneath. When you talk, smile, smoke (this is particularly damaging to the delicate skin around the mouth), or just plain use your lips a lot, lines and wrinkles are the result.  All of the lip treatment options offered by Dr. Shah involve dealing with the muscle underneath or the skin on top of the mouth.  At the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery, in Columbus, Ohio, we offer all of these options for you.

Fillers (Juve`derm™ or Restylane®)

Many of the patients that Dr. Shah sees from all around Ohio are not quite sure what a "filler" is.  A "filler" is something that does just that: it fills the space underneath a wrinkle to "beef" it up so that it is smooth with the surrounding skin.  Both Restylane® and Juve`derm™ act the same way.  They can be injected under a wrinkle and in a matter of minutes, your facial lines will be softer, smoother, and very natural looking.

Many patients are concerned about whether there will be pain with this procedure. At the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Bivik Shah uses special techniques to numb the area with creams so that the procedure is pain free. BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injectable treatment that works on the muscles around the lips. Dr. Shah is very careful to use BOTOX® Cosmetic so that you have lips that move very naturally and have smoother skin.  The injections only take about 15 - 30 minutes, and you can go right back to work when the appointment is done.  BOTOX® Cosmetic lasts for about three to six months, depending on how many times you have it done.  Call now to schedule an appointment.

What if I have a lot of lines or wrinkles around my lips?

For those of you with significant lines around the mouth, Dr. Bivik Shah at the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery feels that your best option might be a Fraxel™ treatment or a chemical peel.

Fraxel™

Dr. Shah is one of the few plastic surgeons in the Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus, Ohio area that offers the new Fraxel™ technology.  Simply put, Fraxel™ is a laser.  However, its advanced technique uses a pixilated approach so that the recovery is only a day or two.  In fact, most people are able to go back to work in about a day post-treatment.  Best of all, you do not have to be put to sleep: Dr. Shah has only to apply a numbing cream, and in about an hour and a half, you will be ready to drive yourself home!  The results of Fraxel™ laser treatment can be amazing, producing skin that is smooth and even-toned, with remarkably few brown spots.  Most people need about three to four treatments to experience the full effect of Fraxel™.

Chemical Peels

At the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery, the chemical peel is saved for people who want quick, dramatic results.  When Dr. Shah, a board certified plastic surgeon, performs a chemical peel, usually all of the lines around the mouth are improved dramatically for smooth, natural, and healthy looking skin.  The procedure takes about an hour and you can be put under general anesthesia or choose to have twilight anesthesia, which allows you to remain awake, but very comfortable and do not feel pain).  The recovery is usually about five to 10 days, depending on the depth of the peel that is used.
